(MENAFN - Arab News) Germany enjoys excellent reputation as a successful exporter and that Baden Wuerttemberg is proud of its role as a major contributor to this success story.

This was stated by Nils Schmid, deputy prime minister, minister of planning and economics of Baden-Wurttemberg in Germany, at a recent event in Riyadh.

A delegation led by Nils Schmid is currently in the Kingdom to promote German products and services.

"I and my delegation are happy indeed to be in the Kingdom, with which Germany has excellent bilateral ties, including trade. It's a wonderful experience being here, meeting with top Saudi officials as well as local businessmen. It's my second time to be here," Schmid said.

The delegation includes political leaders and delegations from various fields such as construction, green building and interior design.

German Ambassador Dieter W. Haller hosted a reception for the 36-member delegation in Riyadh.

Economy and Planning Minister Muhammad Al-Jasser, Saudi officials and businessmen attended the event.

Andreas Hergenroether, delegate of German Industry and Trade for Saudi Arabia and Yemen (AHK Saudi Arabia), was also present.

Talking to Arab News, Schmid said large globally recognized companies such as Daimler, Porsche, Bosch, Zeiss and SAP determine the status of the German economy and its success with regards to exports as well as numerous small- and medium-scale companies.

"Their ideas and innovations make a decisive contribution to the international competitiveness of Baden Wuerttemberg. Nowhere in Europe do companies invest in research and the development of innovative products than in Baden Wuerttemberg," he said.

He said: "Nowhere else is possible to find so many active cluster initiatives and industry-specific networks, which additionally boost the innovative strength of companies in the state."

He also highlighted the international success of clusters and technology enterprises in Baden Wuerttemberg.

"The state of Baden Wuerttemberg and local companies are doing everything in their power to continually expand this leading international position in all forward-looking areas of industry. We want to continue producing sustainable solutions and cutting-edge technology worldwide to help deal with the social and ecological challenges the world is currently facing," he said.

The delegation earlier called on Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Abdulrahman Al-Zamil and met with Saudi businessmen.

The delegation also visited the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) and the showroom of Ojail Concepts and Contracting to view examples of interior construction.

Hergenroether said the trip was "a further step toward technology transfer and know-how in green building and and interior designs".

He said the discussions were very fruitful and led to the new business ties between Saudi Arabia and Germany."

Schmid left the Kingdom Tuesday night while the business delegation proceeded to Jubail on Wednesday.

They will meet with Abdul Rahman bin Abdullah Al-Wabel, Asharqia Chamber secretary general and hold discussions and share experiences with German firms in the region.

The delegation leaves on Friday.
