Qatar - Zakat Fund Collects More than QR 145 Million During Last Fasting Month of Ramadan


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Zakat Fund of the Ministry of Awqaf ( Endowments) and Islamic Affairs has announced that it has collected zakat from about 140 companies operating in the State of Qatar , raising more than QR145 million during the month of Ramadan and the following three weeks. The Zakat fund, organized a symposium on 'zakat of corporate as a religious duty and social responsibility' in cooperation with Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) here on Tuesday with the aim of urging companies to play their role towards the community The fund pointed out that it had raised more than QR170 million in 2012/2013 ,expecting to collect about nearly QR 200 million of 2013/2014 Speaking at the function, Vice-Chairman of QCCI, Mohammed bin Ahmed bin Twar Al Kuwari, noted that Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam and is an obligation on every adult, sane Muslim since it purifies the soul.
