(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The accused fled the scene after the worker fought them back to protect himself.
A 20-year-old student and his unemployed friend, 19, allegedly tried to kidnap a worker after posing as CID (Criminal Investigation Department) officers, a court heard.
The Emirati and his accomplice, a Comoros Islands passport holder, are believed to have tried to force the worker, an Indian, into their car. However, the accused fled the scene after the worker fought them back to protect himself.
The pair faced charges of attempted kidnap, attempted robbery, assault and impersonating police officers in the Court of First Instance.
The complainant, a 34-year-old warehouse keeper, said he was outside his workplace in Al Quoz on the night of the incident on April 28. "It was around 11.30pm. A man approached me and claimed he was a CID officer. He showed me a card, which I could not see well because it was dark. He asked me to produce my labour card."
Another man then came from behind the complainant. "They tried to force me into their car. But I resisted".
The man in front allegedly bit him in the chest. "I pushed them very hard and we all fell down," the complainant said. "The driver of their car stepped out. He was holding a hockey stick, with which he hit me and I collapsed."
The warehouse keeper screamed for help and some passers-by rushed to his aid, following which the accused sped away. In the Public Prosecution's remarks, they said the complainant had dropped his complaint after the defendants promised to pay him compensation for the physical injury they caused him. The accused, however, failed to do so.
