Saudi Water And Power Forum Kicks Off in Jeddah


(MENAFNEditorial) Saudi Water and Power Forum 2013, held in partnership with the Saudi Ministry of Water & Electricity, began in the Jeddah Hilton on Dec 1. The grand opening ceremony of the Forum was marked by the keynote address given by H.E. Abdullah bin Abdul Rahman Al Hussayen, Minister of Water and Electricity and strong support of Prince Mishaal bin Abdulaziz. As a part of the ceremony, H.E. Abdullah bin Abdul Rahman Al Hussayen toured the exhibition stands along with other delegates. The day concluded with SWPF Award for Innovation and the Marafiq Award for Sustainability followed by a Gala Dinner hosted by ACWA Power. The Forum, which adds value by creating opportunities, building relationships and fostering innovation, was attended by a number of industry professionals and experts. H.E. Dr Abdullah Al-Shehri, Governor, Electricity & Co-Generation Regulatory Authority (ECRA); Dr Naïf Al-Abbadi, Director General, Saudi Energy Efficiency Center (SEEC); H.E. Dr Saleh Alawaji, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Saudi Electricity Company & Deputy Minister for Electricity, Ministry of Water & Electricity; H.E. Loay Bin Ahmad Bin Sa'ad Al-Musallam, CEO, NWC; Dr Michael Suess, CEO, Siemens Energy Sector; Amin Al-Shibani, VP Economic Development, KAUST; Maher Alodan, Research & Development & Innovation, KA CARE and Loay Alfi, Head of Business Development, KICP were among those present at the Forum and shared their viewpoints on the Renewable Energy Resources in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The opening day of the Forum also witnessed the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) Pre-Forum Sessions and a site visit to KAUST. "The first day of the Forum was fantastic as we witnessed innovative technical presentations from the University and industry experts on new renewable solutions available in the Kingdom" stated Moya Bushnak's Chairman Dr. Adil Bushnak. "SWPF is a one-of-kind Forum which effectively connected the stakeholders and strongly projected the agenda for sustainable growth" he added. The Forum received full support and participation of reputed companies, including ACWA Power, Siemens, GE, Marafiq, Doosan, Alstom, Aqualia, Al Kawther, Severn Trent Services, Schneider Electric, Veolia Water, SAPAC Water, Frost, Sullivas, Desertec Foundation and King Abdullah University for Science and Technology. Prominent entities such as National Water Company (NWC), King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (K-A-CARE), Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), Saudi Arabia Solar Industry Association (SASIA), International Desalination Association (IDA), Electricity and Cogeneration Regulatory Authority (ECRA) and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) also participated in the Forum.
