Kuwait - KD 3.5m Eyed As Rental Firms To Pay Traffic Violators' Fines

(MENAFN- Arab Times) Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs Major General Abdul Fattah Al- Ali said the Traffic Department has canceled the decision to transfer traffic citations to citizens, expatriates, and visitors that hire cars from the rental companies, reports Al-Kuwaitiya daily. Major-General Al-Ali added the legal department decided after a meeting to cancel the decision of transferring citations to the renters' name, except for the rental companies that have contracts with State institutions. The decision follows recent verdicts in which the legitimacy of transferring citations to citizens and expatriates was nullified based upon rental contracts they sign, besides the fact that many visitors leave the country after a short stay without paying fines, thus the rental companies that are not on government contract must settle citations issued against their cars. He noted implementation of the decision will facilitate the collection of an estimated KD 3.5 million in traffic fines annually.
