(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Mohammed Zaid Al Shihi, 58, who was the manager of the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) in Ras Al Khaimah, lost balance, fell on his head, and sustained bleeding, an official said.
Director of the Saqr Hospital Dr Abdullah bin Fadhl Al Nuaimi said Al Shihi was in a very critical condition when admitted to the hospital. "He (Al Shihi) had suffered grave injuries and fractures in his skull, which caused severe brain bleeding, and resulted in several cardiac arrests."
Adding, he said a special group of consultants was dedicated to follow up Al Shihi's condition after a sudden deterioration in his health which ended in a deep coma. "Though Al Shihi's heart was revived twice, he could not make it and passed away."
Al Shihi had seven children - three sons and four daughters. Ahmed Al Shihi, the 32-year-old second son of the deceased, said his father bought several flags just days before the accident occurred to replace the old flags that usually adorned their house during the celebrations.
"On the day of the tragedy, my father took the stairs up to the roof alone and fixed a big UAE flag between the first and second floor.
"When coming down, he slipped on the stairs, lost balance, and fell down from the second floor onto the first floor, head first," he added.
Ahmed, having heard the bang, rushed to the roof of the first floor where he found his father totally unconscious. "My father was rushed to the Saqr Hospital where he died of a severe internal haemorrhage and heart attack."
Medical manager of Saqr Hospital Dr Mustafa Al Nashar, who examined Al Shihi's condition upon arrival, said the victim was in a full coma and his vital organs were failing when he arrived at the hospital.
"His heart was successfully revived, and he was then moved to the intensive care unit where he was subjected to a CT scan.
"The images collected showed that Al Shihi was suffering serious haematomas in the brain, cerebellum and stem, as well as internal bleeding."
In an instant response, Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth, and Community Development, dispatched a high profile medical team from the Khalifa and Cleveland Hospitals by air to follow the victim's condition but he was in a very serious condition.
"(Despite) first-aid being provided to the patient, we could not revive him for a third time, and his heart eventually stopped."
Residents of the emirate said Al Shihi was very dedicated to his charity work. "He is very appreciated by all the people here as he was always ready to help without any exceptions," resident, Mohammed E., said.
