Ahliyyah School for Girls Uses Solar Power for Electricity Generation


(MENAFNEditorial) Amman, December 2013 - The Ahliyyah School for Girls (ASG) announced that it has launched a first-of-its-kind in Jordan photoelectricity project that generates electricity using solar power. The announcement was made during a ceremony - held under the patronage of the Minister of Environment H.E. Taher Shakhshir - in the presence of the Chairman of the Arab Evangelical Episcopal Church and Chairman of the Ahliyyah School for Girls and Bishop's School Board of Trustees, Bishop Suhail Dawani. Also in attendance were a group of Senators, former Ministers, members of both schools' Board of Directors, students' parents and individuals who have taken an interest in environmental issues and renewable energy projects. During the ceremony, H.E. Shakhshir lauded ASG's latest initiative and reaffirmed that this photoelectricity project will serve as a turning point for schools across the Kingdom and as motivation for students to innovate, excel and employ renewable energy resources. Commenting on the photoelectricity project, H.E. Senator Haifa Najjar, Superintendent of the Ahliyyah School for Girls and the Bishop's School for Boys, stated, "By launching such projects we strive to serve as role models for our students and to spur them to take the initiative and act as model citizens. This project is closely aligned with Ahliyyah School for Girls' philosophy and direction to do all that is in our power to create a clean environment and tackle pressing energy issues by tapping into renewable energy." Implemented in accordance with Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC) regulations, the project was designed and executed in collaboration with Mustakbal Clean Tech which utilized photoelectric cells to instantly convert solar power into electric energy. The project will also contribute to the Kingdom's electricity network. The ceremony featured a short video about ASG, bilingual welcome speeches by two ASG students, in addition to a performance by ASG choir members who sang two Jordanian folklore songs.
