The sixth annual Middle East Architect Awards recognised the best projects and individuals from throughout the GCC in 2013, ranging from the world's tallest towers to one off villas, and veteran designers to bright young architects just starting out in the region.
It was a keenly-contested event, with nominations received from throughout the Mena region - from Kuwait to Oman, and Libya to Abu Dhabi.
The awards judging panel was drawn on an expert panel of eminent architect practitioners and stalwarts from the construction industry.
The event culminated with an evening of felicitation and gala ceremony in Dubai.
Among the Alubond USA guests of honour for the awards ceremony, were the highly-distinguished Eng Dr Rashid Al Alleem, director-general of the Hamriyah Free Zone Authority and Sharjah Airport Free Zone, Ports and Customs; representatives from Civil Defence, Dubai Municipality and Sharjah City Municipality, as well as the acclaimed head and architectural design pioneer Eng Ahmed Saffrini, from Adnan Saffrini Engineering Consultants.
International design practice Aedas, enjoyed a hugely-successful night, picking up two awards, winning Commercial Project of the Year and the Best Overall Project in the Middle East for its Al Bahr Towers.
Dubai- based firm GAJ was also honoured with two awards - Large Architecture Firm of the Year an Young Architect of the Year (Yazeed Abualrous). International consulting engineers Buro Happold also picked up two awards for Engineer of the Year (Robert Cooke) and Engineering Company of the Year. AGi Architects scooped the award for Residential Project of the Year (Star House) as well as Public Sector, Institutional and Cultural Project of the Year (BBS Pre- School).
Alubond USA has, over the years, emerged as the world's largest metal composite brand with additional production bases in Europe, Turkey, Middle East, and India.
The new production bases in Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia increased the installed capacity of metal composite panels to over 15,000,000sqm and coil coating capacity to over 20,000 tonnes per anum.
