Swiss oilfield company fined USD100m for sanction violation


(MENAFN) A Swiss oilfield services firm agreed to pay a fine of USD100 million to settle its liability for violating US sanctions on Iran, Sudan and Cuba, Xinhua reported. The US Treasury Department said that Weatherford International made business with the three countries, an action that defies sanctions implemented by the US. In the period between 2003 and 2007, the Swiss company made oilfield services business in Iran with a total of USD23 million, while its business with Sudan and Cuba came at USD69.5 million.
