Two held for installing data copying devices at ATMs in Oman


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The anti-economic crime wing at the Directorate General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigations has arrested two persons on charges of installing data copying devices at several ATMs in Dakhliyah governorate.

A source at ROP said that the accused were arrested while they were dismantling the devices installed at one of the ATMs. ''The police also recovered personal computers, datareader, battery chargers, logos of banks, telecommunication devices and cameras to capture pin numbers of the account holders from the duo.''

The source added that the ROP would like to thank all those who cooperated with the investigators to arrest the accused. ''It also calls on citizens and residents to report about people suspiciously frequenting ATMs or any extra devices or cameras installed at ATMs. It also calls on officials of banks to monitor CCTV footage of cameras installed at these ATMs on a regular basis.''<
