Shreyas to lead Oman in ACC U19 Challenge Cup


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Allrounder Shreyas Malhotra has been appointed captain of the U19 national team for the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) U19 Challenge Cup 2013, which will be held in Bangkok, Thailand from December 7-15. 

Omani player Shuaib al Balushi will be his deputy.

Coaches Rakesh Sharma and Parvez al Balushi, who have been training the squad since October 22, will travel with the team along with trainer M V Manjunath while Dad al Balushi is the team manager, according to a press release from Oman Cricket (OC).

The team will leave for Thailand on December 5.

The 14-member team was finalised by senior OC board member and selection committee chief Syed Anwar Ahsan.

A total of seven nations are participating in the competition.

The teams have been pooled into two groups - Group A has Singapore, China and Iran, and Group B comprises Oman, Bhutan, Maldives and Myanmar.

Oman will clash against Myanmar in its first match on December 7 at the Terdthal Cricket Ground, followed by a game against Maldives on December 10 at the Asian Institute of Technology.

Malhotra and Co will next play Bhutan on December 12 at Terdthal.

The top two teams from each group will form the semi line-up.

The semi will be played on December 14 while the final will be held on December 15. There will also be playoffs for the third, fourth, fifth and sixth positions.

Reserves: Waleed al Balushi, Faiz al Balushi, Ivan Manjila, Mohammed Aadil.
