Total population of Oman touches 3.88mn


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The sultanate's population touched 3.88mn in 2013, the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) has said.  According to an NCSI bulletin, Muscat governorate is the most populated with around 30 per cent of the population while the governorates of Al Wusta and Musandam are the least populated with one per cent each.

The bulletin further stated that the population increased by six persons per ten minutes in 2012. ‘The crude birth rate stood at 6.20 persons per 1,000 compared with 3.2 deaths per 1,000.'

It stated that the country's population grew by 4.98 per cent between 2003 and 2013 and the population of expatriates increased by 11 per cent during this period. ‘Of the total population, expatriates account for 44 per cent compared to 24 per cent in 2003.'

The centre's bulletin stated that males represent 50.7 of the population. ‘Also, male expatriates outnumber their female counterparts 5:1.' It stated that Omanis under the age of 30 years comprise 67 per cent of the total Omani population whereas 91 per cent of the expatriate population was in the 20-59 years age group.
