Oman may tax money sent by expats

(MENAFN) An advisory committee to the Omani government suggested implementing taxes on remittances sent by expats as signs of pressure on the Sultanate's finances are coming to light, Saudi Gazette reported. The committee's deputy head said: "The committee is of the opinion that the imposition of a tax on such transfers at an appropriate rate is not expected to have negative effects on economic activity or the citizens." The tax, if it goes into effect, will affect 1.5 million workers mostly from Asia who send money to their countries from Oman.
