Maersk Oil Qatar holds annual Qatarization Gathering

(MENAFNEditorial) Maersk Oil Qatar has recognised the achievements of its employees at its 4th annual Qatarization Gathering in Doha. The country's largest offshore oil operator presented awards to more than 30 employees for their Qatarization efforts and reflected on several milestone deals and significant progress in its 'Action for Qatar' CSR efforts that are contributing to the country's development. Awards for long service and outstanding achievement were handed to 30 Qataris while two appreciation certificates were presented to employees who had advanced Qatarization within Maersk Oil. Special awards were presented to Maersk Oil Qatar's Deputy Managing Director Sheikh Faisal Al-Thani for his continuous support and to former Head of Qatarization Fawzi Al-Ajji for dedication to Qatarization. Sheikh Jassim Al-Thani, Maersk Oil Qatar's Head of Qatarization, said: 'I congratulate everyone who was recognised for their hard work in advancing Qatarization over the past year. Maersk Oil Qatar has much to be proud of - we have doubled the number of Qataris employed in the past five years and seen a 23% rise in those with a bachelor's degree, but we should not rest on our laurels. As a company operating, along with Qatar Petroleum, one of the world's most complex oil fields at Al Shaheen, we have a responsibility to go further and faster with Qatarization. In the coming days we will announce a host of initiatives to further build leadership capacity in Qatar.' For the first time, dignitaries from Qatar Petroleum, Qatar Foundation, Texas A&M University, College of the North Atlantic Qatar, Georgetown University in Qatar and Carnegie Mellon University at Qatar attended Maersk Oil's annual Qatarization Gathering. The gathering heard about Maersk Oil's contribution to local businesses in the past year, including three deals with Gulf Drilling International valued at QAR 1.5 billion (428 US) in addition to the QAR 1.7 billion ($475m) spent last year with local businesses. Sheikh Faisal Al-Thani, Maersk Oil Qatar Deputy Managing Director, highlighted the company's CSR commitment to make a long term contribution to health and safety, the environment and culture and education through quality partnership programmes. He said: 'The Action on Diabetes programme, which we support, is already touching the lives of over 250,000 people a year. By 2030, the number of people with diabetes is projected to noticeably increase so if the programme can help halve this rise it will improve lives and save Qatar millions of dollars each year. We are also working to attract more young Qataris into science, technology, engineering and mathematics through initiatives such as the GO-ROBOTS school programme, reaching over 600 students each year; the 90% reduction in flaring achieved with QP has been acknowledged by the UN; and our support for environmental education has created the first Environmental Chair at Qatar University as well as a pioneering study into Whale Sharks and Qatari marine life.'
