Russia's Grain Harvest Tops 94 million tonnes


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Russia's grain growing regions are carrying on this year's harvest with yields higher due to better weather conditions, and the harvest now is nearly 94 million metric tons, the Wall Street Journal quoted the agriculture ministry as saying. The ministry said 93.9 million metric tons of grain was harvested to Nov.19 on 41.5 million hectares, or 94.3% of the total area Last year the area was 2.1 million hectares less and 74.4 million tons was harvested The average yield to date is 2.26 tons per hectare compared with 1.91 tons/ha on the same date last year The ministry said the wheat harvest to date stands at 54 million tons on 23.5 million hectares, 1.9 million hectares more than a year ago, with an average yield of 2.3 tons/ha On the same date last year, the wheat harvest was 39.7 million tons with an average yield of 1.86 tons/ha.
