(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Iran and the six world powers have finally reached a a long-awaited deal on Tehran's nuclear program after days of intense talks in Geneva.
"We have reached an agreement," Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif announced
"[Uranium] Enrichment is recognized
[Nuclear] Activities will continue and sanctions are put on a slope
More than any time before, we need national solidiarity [at home]," he wrote on his Facebook page
He also told Iranian reporters in Geneva that this was "only the beginning" of a nuclear deal
Meantime, EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton confirmed the news, saying that they had agreed a "first step" towards a comprehensive solution
French and British foreign ministers Laurent Fabius and William Hague have also confirmed agreement
The deal was announced on Sunday morning after the intense nuclear talks between Tehran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council - Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States - plus Germany, originally scheduled to end on Friday, entered into the fifth day
The interim deal allows for Iran to continue its activities in its nuclear sites in the cities of Arak, Fordo, and Natanz
According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, the agreement also stipulates that no additional sanctions will be imposed on Iran because of its nuclear energy program
Iran will also receive access to USD 4.2 billion in foreign exchange as part of the nuclear deal
US President Barack Obama welcomed the deal, saying it included "substantial limitations which will help prevent Iran from building a nuclear weapon".
