China, Japan Increases U.S. Treasury Holdings


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) According to the latest data released by the U.S.Department of the Treasury, China increased its holdings of U.STreasury securities by USD 25.7 billion in September 2013 As of the end of September, China's total holdings of U.S Treasury securities was USD 1.29 trillion, approaching USD 1.3 trillion once again after recording about USD 1.29 trillion at the end of May As a result, China has remained the biggest foreign creditor of the U.S Since December 2012, China's holdings of U.S Treasuries have remained above USD 1.2 trillion China has continued to increase its U.S Treasury holdings every month, excluding the reductions of USD 6.2 billion in January, USD 21.5 billion in June, and USD 11.2 billion in August Japan remained the second largest foreign holder of U.S Treasuries. At the end of September, Japan held a total of USD 1.18 trillion in U.S Treasury securities, an increase of USD 29 billion compared to the end of the previous month
