Dubai Exports focus on overseas markets, global halal industry


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Dubai Exports, the export promotion agency of the Department of Economic Development, or DED, in Dubai, will bring local companies and key players in strategic export markets at the fifth 'Exporters' Forum' to discuss international export opportunities as well as challenges and regulations in the global halal markets. The forum, to be held in Dubai on November 21 2013, is part of the multi-disciplinary approach Dubai Export's has adopted in enhancing export related knowledge and capabilities of local companies, thus enabling them to play a greater role in overall economic development in Dubai. Business leaders in the services and trading sectors as well as export officials will attend the forum and share their perspective on key export markets and the best strategies for UAE companies to access such markets. Local and international exporters and export assistance providers will also display their products and services alongside the Forum. "Prevailing market dynamics in and around Dubai has substantially increased opportunities for exports and re-exports through the emirate. The 'Exporters' Forum' will serve as a timely dialogue on leveraging these opportunities, thus helping ease further global trade movements," said Engineer Saad Al Awadi, chief executive officer of Dubai Exports. Services provided by Dubai Exports under broader categories such as Exporter Development, Export Promotion (through Exhibitions and Missions), Provision of Market intelligence and Business Matchmaking helps companies in evaluating market opportunities and then making informed decisions on market access and expansion. "Dubai Exports has a portfolio of services aimed to help exporters and re-exporters in Dubai connect to major markets and make a competitive offering. The 'Exporters' Forum' this year will specifically highlight the diversity of products manufactured and re-exported through Dubai, especially in the halal products segment," added Al Awadi. Torek Farhadi, Senior Adviser to the Business, Environment, International Trade Centre (ITC) in Geneva will be the keynote speaker at this year's Forum. He will also share his observation on the global halal industry later with the attendees. Sudhir Mannie Consul (Economic) at the South African Consulate in Dubai, Perry Fung, Regional director for Middle East and Africa at the Hong Kong Trade Development council and Cleophas Ruhumbika, Consul (Commercial Affairs) at the Tanzanian Consulate in Dubai will present the export opportunities in their respective countries/territory in the first session of the Forum. The second session on 'Global Halal Market Challenges and Regulations' will feature Jamil bin Bidin, chief executive officer, Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC) in Malaysia, Mohammed Al Badri, director general, Emirates Authority for Standardisation & Metrology ( ESMA), Saleh Lootah, managing director, Al Islami Foods, and Othman Md. Yousuf, Head of Halal Affairs and Chairman of Halal Committee of Nestle Malaysia.
