Tasneef to issue certificates to UAE ships

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The UAE National Transport Authority, or NTA has recognised Tasneef as an agency for statutory certification to UAE flagged ships. Dr Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Minister of Public Works and Chairman NTA said the establishment of Tasneef last year gives a strong push for UAE shipping and Maritime Industries. According to the decision, Tasneef has become the recognized agency to provide statutory certificates to UAE-registered vessels, he said. Tasneef chief executive officer Rashed Mohammed Al Hebsi said the agency has been recognised internationally, allowing it to expand its services to the shipping sector in the UAE. Al Hebsi noted that shipping in the UAE, the second largest Arab economy, has steadily grown over the past years because of an upturn in almost all economic sectors and huge surge in oil explorations, adding that 60 per cent of the global fleet passes through the Gulf. Dubai also has the largest dry-docks in the region while Fujairah has become among the largest five bunker suppliers in the world. "Tasneef is the first national classification agency in the UAE and it aims to contribute to enhance the safety of UAE-flag vessels"it opens broad horizons for UAE engineers to work in the shipping industry." Al Hebsi said, "Tasneef is able to offer services to all shipping firms operating in the UAE." Tasneef would work closely with ship building industries to provide technical consulting services and exchange expertise and training. "Tasneef's priority is to preserve the country's maritime assets and environment by issuing specifications by which all firms should abide"it now aims to strengthen its presence and influence in this field."
