Omani suffering losses struggling to pay employee's medical bills

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) An Omani is trying hard to arrange for money needed to treat his Indian employee admitted to The Royal Hospital's emergency ward in a critical condition since November 7.

Badar al Kasbi, who runs Power Oman Trading and Contracting, says he is suffering losses in the business and plans to request the Ministry of Health (MoH) to waive his 35 year old employee's medical expenses.

''After Binu K complained of pain, I took him to a private hospital twice and paid nearly RO1,000 in medical bills,'' said Kasbi. His condition worsening, Binu was referred to The Royal Hospital. ''The hospital has already given me a bill of RO1,600. I am planning to submit an application to MoH for waiving the bill. I will also inform the Indian Embassy about my situation,'' Kasbi added.

Hospital authorities said Binu has liver ailments and his pancreas have stopped functioning normally. Kasbi's other workers said he is trying all he can to help Binu, but meeting the medical expenses is getting difficult because of the losses.

''The employer visits Binu regularly at the hospital. Despite falling on hard times, he is trying his best to meet the medical expenses,'' said Mathew Philip P, a senior employee of the company.

''Binu, a boom truck driver for one and a half years, was admitted to The Royal Hospital after being referred by a private hospital. I will need at least RO4,000 to take him to India with a medical team. I am trying all I can. I will find a way, Inshallah,'' Kasbi said.

He said that Binu, a native of Kannur in Kerala, has a disabled brother and an ailing mother. He was to tie the knot next month. ''He was working till a month ago, and now he is lying unconscious in hospital,'' Kasbi said.&
