Qatar to create food supply contingency plans

(MENAFN) Qatar has hired local and international consultants in addition to experts from Texas A&M University to create food contingency plans in the event of a crisis, Times of Oman reported. The head of communications at the Qatar National Food Security Program said this bid is not a response to threats from the unrest in the region. "Like any nation, we looked at dozens of security scenarios," he said adding that Qatar imports most of its food. Chatham House released a study saying that the turmoil in Egypt and Syria, in addition to Iran's threats to close the Strait of Hormuz shows the vulnerability of GCC nations to supply disruptions.
