Oman earns seats on three UNESCO bodies

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman has earned three new seats on commissions and committees of UNESCO through elections held during the 37th session of the UN General Assembly.

The sultanate won a seat in the council of the UNESCO International Bureau of Education (IBE), one in the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) governing board and a seat in the Council of the International Hydrological Programme (IHP).

IBE, based in Geneva, undertakes educational planning and works on improving processes of education for students, encouraging developing practices in the curricula and methods of teaching at an international level, developing and publishing specialised researches and studies which help member states cope with technological and scientific progresses and meeting requirements of the labour market.

UIS covers an extensive group of indices. It provides contrasting data which enables decisions makers to measure the achieved progress in their countries and is considered the main source for obtaining data in the fields of education and  literacy for pioneering publications and databases such as the Education for All Global Monitoring Report,  World Development Indicators (World Bank), Human Development Report (HDR) and UNICEF - The State of the World's Children.

IHP is an international scientific programme for the UNESCO and works in the field of researches on water, water resources management, education and building capabilities.

Beside these three new seats, Oman is still on the Intergovernmental Council for Information for All Programme.
