Health Minister says diabetes percentage in Oman too high


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The Minister of Heath has urged people – Omanis and expatriates – to care for their health and avoid non-communicable diseases like diabetes. H E Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Obaid al Saeedi said that 13.5 per cent of Oman's population suffers from diabetes.

''That's the official figure, but I am sure it is much higher because there are many who haven't been diagnosed.''

H E Dr Saeedi was speaking to Muscat Daily after registering for the November 22 diabetes walkathon to be held by the Landmark Group in cooperation with Ministry of Health (MoH) at Rose Garden.

He said that diabetes is a major  non-communicable disease which leads to other non-communicable ailments like heart problems, kidney failure and cancer. ''These life-long diseases are, unfortunately, expensive to manage.

''Please take care of your health, whether you are an Omani or an expatriate. You need to take the initiative,'' he said.
