MoH reports first MERS death in Oman


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The first death in Oman from MERS-CoV has been reported by the Ministry of Health (MoH). The victim, a 68 year old Omani man suffering from 'several chronic illnesses including diabetes and high blood pressure' died on Saturday morning, MoH said in a press release.

According to the ministry, the patient's condition deteriorated despite best clinical treatment and continuous consultations  with experts, and he died of lung failure.

MoH said it has taken all precautionary measures as per World Health Organization guidelines, including epidemiological investigation of contacts with the case, adding that it is collecting more samples.

According to WHO, 150 MERS-CoV cases have been recorded worldwide, including 67 deaths.
