(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The Ministry of Tourism (MoT) will celebrate the tenth anniversary of its office at UK at this year's World Travel Market (WTM), which kick-started on November 4 and runs till Thursday.
The number of visitors from the UK has increased significantly over the years. In 2012 alone, it recorded a 15 per cent increase. A consistent increase in visitor figures was witnessed from 2003 to 2012 – from 25,000 to 121,000.
MoT is representing Oman at the 34th session of WTM, which began on Monday in London. The Omani delegation is headed by H E Ahmed bin Nasser al Mehrzi, Minister of Tourism. The sultanate is participating in the four-day event with 22 companies operating in the travel and tourism sector.
The MoT's UK team will also be available throughout WTM. The team includes newly appointed travel trade manager Suzanne Halil and marketing assistant Nitisha Bhogal. At the event, MoT seeks to promote Oman's tourism infrastructure by highlighting services in the region.
Alison Cryer, director, UK and Ireland, MoT, said, ''We are delighted to celebrate our tenth anniversary and look back at all the growth that has been achieved over the last ten years.
''We are now looking forward to the future and actively pursuing growth in the destination's appeal, particularly in niche markets including garden tours, bird watching, diving and sailing, kite- surfing, climbing, trekking, touring, luxury travel, cruising, and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions).''
MoT is also the sponsor of the World Responsible Tourism Awards 2013 WTM. WTM is an opportunity to promote Oman's future hotel openings such as the Rotana and the Alila Boutique Hotel and latest developments such as increased airlift with Qatar Airways launching a flight to Salalah in the summer. Other new developments include the launch of a new rewards programme for travel trade, said Alison.
She added that Oman's stands will be the ideal spot for WTM visitors to take a short deserved break during the show. Omani coffee and dates will be served at the stand in true Omani style and branded gifts will be given away. The sultanate participates in the WTM to confirm its status as a regional and global tourist destination in the region by focusing on the promotion of its cultural, heritage and tourism potentials, showcasing its tourism products and offering and signing direct trade agreements and bilateral and joint memoranda of understanding.
