Siemens to adopt USD7 b Abu Dhabi's metro project
(MENAFN) The German-based Siemens eyes the adoption of Abu Dhabi's metro and light rail project that is expected to cost about USD7 billion, according to Saudi Gazette.
It is expected the metro to be ready to operate in 2020. It aims to facilitate transportation in the emirate, and save time and billions of dirhams as a result.
Joerg Scheifler, the chief executive for infrastructure and cities at Siemens in the Middle East, said: "Abu Dhabi has pumped a lot of efforts in the last years to build highways, tunnels."
"When your population reaches 1 million, you should start building things like metros and trams. They have been talking about metro and trams for many years, but now they are serious," he added.
