(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) H E Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications, has issued a statement asking telecoms service providers to ensure the best quality of service, fees and subscriber features.
The statement was issued after a meeting the minister had in his office on Tuesday with the chairman of the board of directors of Omantel, CEOs of Omantel and Nawras, Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) and Information Technology Authority.
H E Futaisi said the meeting was held to address the complaints by citizens regarding the quality of service provided by telecom operators.
The meeting discussed views of the operators and TRA on quality, fees and challenges.
At the meeting, operators pointed out that the procedure to get permits for building telecommunication stations is lengthy and this delays setting up the networks, which adversely reflects the quality of service.
H E Futaisi assured that the matter will be discussed with the concerned departments and necessary measures will be taken.
He pointed out the vital role of the telecommunication sector in the social and economical development of the country and in meeting goals of the national strategy for a digital society, e- government and the vision for Oman's economy in 2020.
Further meetings will be held to discuss other issues concerning the sector and to promote the spread of 3G and 4G services in various sectors of Oman, the minister said.
He also said that there was a need to improve services in areas with weak signals.
