(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) The Supreme Council for Planning on Tuesday announced its decision to organise panel sessions over four days in December-end to formulate social policies which will be integrated into the ninth Five-Year Plan. These policies may also be included in the sultanate's vision of Oman 2040.
The policies formed will cover a range of issues concerning society.
Addressing a media gathering on Tuesday, Intisar al Wahibi, director general of developmental planning at the council's general secretariat, said, ''The main focus in the past Five-Year Plans has been mainly on infrastructure but now, the focus is on social structure, especially after
directives of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said at the Council of Oman's fifth annual regular meeting.'' Intisar said that the panel sessions will cover four main aspects. The first aspect will be education, training and employment, while the second will be investing in people (sectoral policies) followed by social protection as the third aspect and finally, the execution strategy.
''We prepare policies but we normally don't take care of the strategy, i e how to carry out the policies,'' she added. Dr Hilal al Shidhani, advisor on strategic affairs and societal relations in the Supreme Council, said that the general secretariat has created a team, chaired by Intisar, which will visit all the governorates and meet municipal council members, walis, and sheikhs in addition to sports and cultural clubs, as well as members of civil society institutions and interact with them to get their feedback on several issues.
''We will cover all categories of society including youth and women,'' added Intisar
