U.S. shares opened and closed in mixed color at the beginning of the week, after the release of less than forecast U.S. data, with eyes focusing on Fed meeting.

Today’s report showed that U.S. factories output surged 0.1 percent in September from a revised of 0.5 percent in August, coming below median forecast of 0.3 percent gain.

Data released last week, which showed drop in U.S. payrolls in September and sentiment, has added to expectations the would refrain from any stimulus cut this year, especially as the government shutdown is predicted to shave from the fourth-quarter growth.

Policymakers at the Fed will conclude a two-day meeting on Wednesday, where investors will wait for any hint regarding the timing of the bond purchases withdrawal.

As of 16:15 EST, Standard & Poor’s 500 rose 0.05% to 1760.72 points.

Dow Jones dipped 0.01% to 15559.20 points, while NASDAQ plunged by 0.08% to 3940.13 points, as of 09:48 EST.
