Data deluge continues, with Fed meeting in between

(MENAFN– ecpulse) The week ahead will be packed with data, as both the Census Bureau and the Labor Department play catch-up with data postponed due to the government shutdown.

This includes September retail sales, to be released Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. ET, as well as the September producer and consumer price indices, to be released Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. ET and Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. ET, respectively.

Other postponed data to be released include the September industrial productivity report Monday at 9:15 a.m. ET and the August business inventories report Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. ET.

FOMC

The Federal Open Market Committee meets Tuesday-Wednesday, and will be releasing its latest policy statement Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. ET, although nobody is expecting any fireworks after the lackluster September jobs report.

With a coming change in leadership, and a potentially sizable impact to growth still to be reported due to the shutdown, it is looking less likely the Fed will make any changes to policy in the near-term.

The September MNI Chicago report will also be released Thursday at 9:45 a.m. ET. The report has showed a steady pace of modest expansion over the last few months, although that could change as the impact to confidence by the government shutdown is reflected in the data.

The September MNI Chicago report has also historically been a solid leading indicator for movement in the Institute for Supply Management`s national purchasing manager index, which will be released Friday at 10:00 a.m. ET for the month of September.

The Dallas Federal Reserve will also release its October manufacturing survey Monday at 10:30 a.m. ET, while the October Markit purchasing manager index will be released Friday at 8:58 a.m. ET.

Housing data to be released next week include the September pending home sales index Monday at 10:00 a.m. ET and the August S&P Case Shiller home price index Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. ET.

Housing prices have lately begun to pick up due to increased demand and short supply, though this could begin to hurt sales in the coming months without any speedier improvement in the economy.

October auto sales will also be released throughout the day Friday, and should show signs of normalizing after the displaced Labor Day holiday skewed September figures.

Other data to be released next week include initial jobless claims Thursday at 8:30 a.m. ET, the Conference Board`s October consumer confidence index Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. ET, and the ADP employment report Wednesday at 8:15 a.m. ET.

St. Louis Federal Reserve President James Bullard will speak on the economy and monetary policy in Missouri Friday at 9:10 a.m. ET.

Minneapolis Federal Reserve President Narayana Kocherlakota will speak at a community conference in Minnesota Friday at 11:15 a.m. ET. He will not discuss the economy.
