UAE- Hot start for cross platform BBM

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) In a statement, Ontario-based BlackBerry said that the BBM app shot up to be the No. 1 free app in over 75 countries within 24 hours of its launch, including most of the Middle East, the US, Canada, the UK and Indonesia. A leak issue, which completely stopped its original rollout in September, has apparently been fixed, and consumers can now enjoy using BlackBerry's reputed and secure messaging service - something that users have long sought on other mobile operating systems over the years. "This has been an incredible launch for BBM across Android and iPhone devices. The mobile messaging market is full of opportunity for BBM. We intend to be the leading private social network for everyone who needs the immediate communication and collaboration of instant messaging combined with the privacy, control and reliability delivered through BBM," Andrew Bocking, executive vice-president for BBM at BlackBerry, said in the statement. In previews interviews with Khaleej Times, top officials of BlackBerry Middle East lauded BBM's importance to the region's users, citing its advantages and popularity. "Consumers enjoy BBM because it is very secure and very private, unlike other social media apps," Mike Al Mefleh, senior director of Product Management and Platform - Software Services at BlackBerry, said then. In a more recent conversation, Nick Horton, BlackBerry's managing director for the Mena, said that the cross-platform move will be a "pretty revolutionary engagement" for users of BBM. "We're going to make sure that the user experience [of BBM on other platforms] will be the best as it can be," he said. "We want to double the number of BBM users."
