Oman Air receives three honours at OAMC awards

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman Air received three honours at the first OAMC Oman Airports Awards on Monday. The event, organised by the Oman Airports Management Company (OAMC), was held at Shangri-La's Barr al Jissah Resort & Spa.

The awards were broadly divided into two categories: airlines and retails.

Airlines awards were given in seven different categories, three of which were won by Oman Air: best in-flight service, best airline marketing and best Muscat airport service.

While flydubai won the award for the best low-cost airline, Dutch airline Martinair won the award for being the best cargo airline.

Awards for the best Salalah airport service and fastest growing airline were won by Air India Express and Ethiopian Airlines, respectively.

Awards in the retails category were bagged by Subway for best restaurant, Costa Coffee for best coffee shop, WH Smith for best shopping and Muscat Duty Free for fastest growing retailer.

H E Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications (MoTC), handed over trophies to winners and mementoes to the Public Authority for Civil Aviation, ROP and Oman Air for their commitment and cooperation in the management of Oman's airports.

In his inaugural speech, Dr Juma bin Ali al Juma, chairman of OAMC, said, ''The award ceremony has been instituted to recognise the best management, services and hospitality practices and OAMC will continue such endeavours.''

Winners were selected on the basis of a survey conducted among passengers at all Oman airports in the past few months.

The event was attended by 400 industry representatives, including CEOs of airports, airlines, and air traffic management.

Vic Allen, acting CEO, OAMC, said, ''The number of entries was very high. This shows the dedication with which the airlines, hospitality and service providers ensure the future of customer-friendly and sound aviation travel.

''We congratulate the winners for their exceptional performance and contribution in the aviation sector. We also wish them more success in the years to come.''

The event also saw the launch of OAMC's new website (www.omanairports.co.om) by H E Dr Futaisi.
