Oman eyes Gitex for boost to ICT agenda

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman will participate in the Middle East's premier information communication technology (ICT) show, Gitex Technology Week 2013, with the aspiration to boost its horizon of opportunities in regional and international arenas.

Gitex will be held from October 20-24 at the World Trade Centre in Dubai.

The sultanate's participation this year comes under the umbrella of e.oman, comprising the Information Technology Authority (ITA), Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM) and a number of government entities and private companies specialised in ICT.

This year's participation is the biggest in terms of the number of contributing institutions and the earmarked space, which will be divided into two sections; one dedicated to government institutions with the other designated for private sector's entities.

Through its participation, the sultanate strives to achieve a number of objectives, notably to attract investment, promote SMEs, and spotlight a number of successful models of eProjects in the public and private sectors.

ITA will highlight its pioneering eProjects, which include the national ePayment Gateway, the official eGovernment Services Portal, the Sas Programme and Centre for Entrepreneurship, and Oman's National Computer Emergency Readiness Team (Ocert).

This is the ninth time KOM is participating at Gitex. KOM will aim to enhance its marketing campaign as Oman's groundbreaking technology park, in addition to taking advantage of the presence of leading investors, experts, specialists and those interested in ICT. KOM will also seek to attract investment, and entice private institutions and entrepreneurs through the promotion of investment fundamentals and opportunities.

The event offers participants the opportunity of networking with executives from key industries and becoming part of game-changing ICT trends such as big data, cloud security, financial technology and digital strategies.
