Slight changes in Abu Dhabi building materials' prices


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) ABU DHABI - Statistics Centre €“ Abu Dhabi, or Scad, issued its monthly report on the prices of building materials for the month of September and the third quarter of 2013. The report presents an analysis of the movements in the prices of the various materials used in the construction industry in Abu Dhabi retail market, with year-over-year and month-over-month comparisons of prices in the third quarter and September 2013. Slight changes were observed in the average prices of building materials groups in September compared with August 2013, with increases ranging from 2.7 percent for the wood group to 2.8 per cent for construction labour. Price falls for the same months compared were in the range of 0.2 per cent for small building wires to 0.5 per cent for waterproofing products. The average prices of steel decreased by 0.4 per cent in September compared with August 2013, reflecting drops in the prices of some items within this group. The average prices of power cables declined 0.3 per cent month-over-month in September 2013, as a result of increases in all of the items falling under this group. The average cost of construction labour increased by 2.8 per cent in September 2013 compared with August 2013, due to rises in the wages the blacksmith and carpenter categories, resulting in an increase of wages of carpenters and metal fixers by 10 per cent each. The report revealed a 2.7 per cent year-on-year increase of in the average prices of the wood group during September 2013. Scad reported decreases in the average monthly prices of 13 groups of building materials during September 2013 compared with September 2012. The falls ranged between 0.5 per cent for paints and 11.8 per cent for cement blocks.
