Omantel launches 2nd edition of business excellence awards


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) In line with its efforts to support the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector and recognise successful entrepreneurs, telecom service provider Omantel has announced the launch of the second edition of the Omantel Business Excellence SME Awards - an initiative that aims at boosting the SME sector and recognising rising stars and entrepreneurs.

Commenting on the initiative, Todd Dick vice president of Omantel Corporate, said, ''We are pleased to renew our commitment to the SME sector by launching the second edition of the Omantel Business Excellence SME Awards, following the success of the first edition last year. Omantel has built a reputation for credibility, reliability and trust, creating long-term and highly valued partnerships by helping companies succeed in many sectors of the Omani economy. We are proud of the long-term partnerships and well-established relationships we have created with government organisations and companies across the full spectrum of business activity."

''Our initiative will recognise the rising stars in the SME segment in Oman, and will celebrate young entrepreneurs who have made their mark. Rewarding and recognising those who practice excellence, and make it a habit. Over the last 12 months, we worked closely with different stakeholders to create more understanding of the needs of this important sector of our economy and we are glad to offer services that are specially tailored to meet the needs of SMEs,'' Dick added.

''The SME sector is an important sector that is expected to play a significant role in realising economic growth plans and help creating more jobs and entrepreneurship opportunities for young Omanis,'' said Huda Abdullah al Habsi, general manager of marketing at Omantel Corporate. ''Last year's edition was a great success with hundreds of participations from different sectors. Through this initiative, we were able to shed light on some successful and role model SMEs.''

Awards will be presented in five categories, namely, best performing company - small enterprise; best performing company - medium enterprise; best new entrant; turnaround success story of the year; and community contribution, a press release said.

The awards ceremony will be held in December and the winners will be provided with the opportunity to network with other industry members and peers. In addition, Omantel put together a package that includes free participation in Omantel Business Alliance events and membership, free consultancy for a period of one year to help build tailor-made telecommunication needs, one year of free exposure through newspaper advertisements and hoardings, free public relations support for a period of one year in addition to advertising support through free bulk SMS to help promote winning businesses. Winners will also be provided with free short film production about their business, two smartphones for every winner and two free months' subscription in any of the company's fixed or mobile services provided to corporates.
