Promoting Oman through its culture


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Al Bustan Palace, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel has turned to centuries old traditions to promote Oman to the world.

What are the things that set Oman apart from other countries? Well, the country's tradition of hospitality, kahwa, and frankincense to name a few.

Al Bustan Palace, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel has turned to some of these centuries old traditions to promote Oman to the world.

The video promoting Oman in the The Art of The Craft series from the Ritz-Carlton introduces Mohammed al Wahaibi, a kahwa maker who has been with Al Bustan Palace hotel for 28 years, as the sultanate's cultural host.

In the video, Wahaibi is seen pouring freshly brewed kahwa and serving it with Omani dates – the local replacement for sugar.

With his broad smile, he regales guests with anecdotes, making them feel at home.

The video also highlights other aspects of Oman's culture such as the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, the Muttrah Souq and frankincense.

Bernard N Viola, general manager of Al Bustan Palace, was quoted as saying in a release, ''We see it as part of our job to preserve the culture of the country. Al Bustan Palace is a hotel that is proud of its heritage, and we are proud to have Wahaibi as our ambassador.''

Tawfik Mokhtar, director of sales and marketing of Al Bustan Palace, said that unlike most hotels that promote themselves by showcasing rooms or adjacent beaches, Al Bustan Palace is striving to promote itself though cultural experiences. For instance, guests are welcomed to the hotel by Omanis in their traditional attire.

''The video was launched in September, 2012. It is posted on YouTube, and we used social media as it is sure way to reach many,'' he said
