(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman qualified for the AFC U19 Championship for the second time when it beat hosts Palestine 1-0 in a Group I qualifying match at the Dura Stadium on Thursday.
Substitute Marwan Tayyib Mubarak scored the lone goal of the contest during the 76th minute to give coach Rene Eijer's boys their second win in the campaign and top the threeteam group.
Oman had earlier defeated Bahrain 2-0 in its opener on October 8. Oman became the second team to qualify for the finals after Vietnam finished on top of Group F.
The competition will be played in Myanmar in October next year.
Fanja, Dhofar secure victories in OPL Cup
Fanja drew 1-1 with hosts Sur in a group A match of the OPL Cup, which resumed after a month's break on Thursday.
Both teams are now on nine points in their group with Fanja on top due to better goaldifference. That apart, Fanja has another game in hand; it faces Al Arouba on Sunday.
The top team from each of the four groups in the OPL Cup will qualify for the semifinals.
If Sur needs to make it to the last four, Fanja will have to lose by a hefty six-goal margin - an unlikely possibility - in its final group match against Arouba, which has just two points from its five games in the competition.
In another match played on the same day at the Al Saada Sports Complex in Salalah, Dhofar edged out Al Ittihad 1-0 to top group B with 12 points.
Dhofar is closely followed by Al Nasr with ten points, with the match between the two sides to be played. Ittihad has lost five games and drawn one in a poor campaign.
The last two group matches will be played on Sunday. Seeb has made it to the knockouts from Group C while Saham is through to the last four from Group D.
