HMS Westminster hosts British Ambassador to Oman


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The UK warship HMS Westminster, currently on deployment in the Sea of Oman, hosted  H E Jamie Bowden, the British ambassador to Oman and other embassy staff for a day to demonstrate its role while deployed on counter-piracy and counter-narcotics duties in the region. 

According to a UK Ministry of Defence release, the guests were given tours of key areas such as the operations room and bridge.

On the bridge, guests were briefed on how the ship is controlled, and they were also invited to steer the warship.

Westminster's boarding team gave a demonstration using sea boats as well as flight displays from the embarked Lynx helicopter.

Capt Hugh Beard, Westminster's commanding officer, said, ''It was a privilege to host the staff from the embassy and say thanks for the support they have provided to Royal Navy warships for the 40 years we have been operating in the region.''

He added, ''It was a thoroughly enjoyable day, and we learnt a great deal from our guests about the country and the region.''

The Type-23 frigate recently spent four days at Port Sultan Qaboos taking on engineering stores, fuel and food, before resuming regional patrols.<
