(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) International paediatric intensive care and paediatric pulmonology conference was held in Sohar Hospital recently under guidance of Dr Ali Madhani, executive director, Sohar Hospital; Dr Kallesh Hebbal, organiing secretary and, Dr Ganji Shivalingam, senior consultant paediatrics and coordinator.
The chief guest of the conference was Salem ba Alawi, DG Health Services, North Batinah, and was inaugurated by Dr Hisham al Musalmani, director health Affairs, North Batinah The main objective of the conference was to discuss common problems in critically ill children and advances in the field of paediatric critical care and paediatric pulmonology. Dr Saleh Khusaiby, dean, OMC, stressed on the role of research that is relevant to local problems and helps improve patient care. He spoke of the cystic fibrosis project approved by Oman Research Council at Oman Medical College (OMC) in cooperation with the department of paediatrics, Sohar Hospital.
The work is underway in the genetics lab of OMC's Sohar campus. International speakers were Dr Suneel Poo boni, senior consultant, pediatric intensivist and ECMO from University of Leicester Hospitals, Royal Infirmary /Glenfield Hospital Leicester UK. He is also president elect, ECMO Society of India, chairperson for ECMO in South Asia and Middle East. He is known figure in the field of paediatric intensive care and extra corporeal membrane oxygenation.
He was invited to Royal Hospital and gave a talk on Cardiac ECMO . The second speaker was Dr VSV Prasad, CEO, Lotus Children Hospital Hyderabad India, he is a consultant neonatologist and paediatric intensivist and Lotus Children Hospital is one of the best paediatric hospitals in India with modern equipment and paediatric cardiac surgical centre for complex cardiac surgeries. About 160 delegates have registered for the conference from different regions of Oman and UAE, including paediatricians, surgeons, anaesthetist and paediatric nurses.
