Oman Sail school receives official RYA recognition

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman Sail's sailing school at The Wave, Muscat, is leading the way as the first powerboat school in Oman to receive official Royal Yachting Association (RYA) recognition by meeting the high international standards set by the British organisation.

The school will be run by six talented young instructors who also recently became the first Omanis to gain RYA recognition for powerboat instruction. They are Yasser al Rahbi, Ghaith al Kasbi, Sultan al Balushi, Abdullah al Busaidi, Ayub al Hasni and Faisal al Wahaibi. The new status allows Oman Sail to offer RYA Powerboat Level's 1 and 2 as well as RYA Safety Boat courses. Bryan Winning, Oman Sail business development director, said it was a honour to achieve RYA recognition as they had invested heavily in developing the people skills and facilities needed to help build the marine leisure industry in Oman.

''Our main focus is to promote safe and enjoyable powerboating across the sultanate. The courses will be offered through Oman Sail's consumer business ‘Sea Oman' and will benefit a wide range of people from leisure boat owners who need to build their skills and confidence to corporate company's requiring qualified drivers.'' Winning said graduates of the RYA Power Boat 2 course will also be offered the option of joining Oman Sail's resourceful ‘Share a Boat' scheme on a Sapphire 29 yacht. ''The scheme is an ideal alternative to owning your own boat. It provides an affordable way to enjoy regular boating without having to make a large capital outlay and avoids the headache and cost of maintenance and mooring.''

Oman's six newly recognised powerboat instructors had to go through rigorous training before being awarded RYA recognition. This included intensive coaching by an RYA powerboat trainer who specially flew out from the UK in August to hone their skills plus a one day assessment to determine their capability for doing the instructors course.

They were then put through three days of meticulous coaching on how to teach powerboating before having to pass a final practical and verbal examination. An additional RYA trainer was sent out from UK to inspect the facilities, equipment and standard of the instructors abilities. RYA status was than awarded to the Oman Sail school at The Wave, Muscat. The courses being offered at The Wave, Muscat can be taken on Oman Sail powerboats or the customer's own private boa
