Jobless Iranian pair steals car posing as CID men

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)  Two unemployed men allegedly stole a mans car after intercepting him on the highway and posing as CIDs (Criminal Investigation Department officers), a court heard. According to prosecution records, the Iranians, identified as B.S. and Y.N., aged 36 and 28 years respectively, intercepted an Indian clerk, posing as police officers. They asked him for his driving licence and the documents of the car and tricked him saying they were taking him to police custody. While B.S. took him in his car, Y.N. made away with the complainants car. B.S. and Y.N. were charged in the Court of First Instance with theft, impersonating police officers and possession of liquor without a licence. Y.N. has also been charged with using others health cards in an administrative investigation and overstaying in the country. The complainant, 31, said he was coming from Emirates Road and heading towards Shaikh Zayed Road. "When I reached the bridge towards the highway, they signalled me to stop. B.S., stepped out and showed me a card claiming he was a CID," the clerk said. He then asked the complainant for his driving licence and the cars registration card. "As my cars registration had expired one year back, he asked me to go with him saying the car has to be impounded. When I asked him which police station he was taking me to, he took my mobile phone and asked me to keep quiet." B.S. also punched him in the face. "The accused drove towards Al Quoz and I kept asking him where he was taking me, but he yelled at me." When they reached Al Quoz, B.S. pulled over at a petrol station and handed the complainant Dh20 and told him to buy a recharge card for the mobile phone. When the complainant refused to step out of the car, B.S. forced him to go and buy the card. But when he came back, the defendant had disappeared. A police sergeant said that he had followed up the matter since the complaint was filed on January 21. "We knew the car in which the defendants were travelling on that day was a rented car. We contacted the rental agency and learnt that the car was rented by B.S.," the officer said. The police arrested B.S. when he returned the car to the agency. As many as 48 beer bottles were seized from the car.
