Oman Cancer Association to hold its annual walkathon on October 29

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman Cancer Association (OCA) will organise its tenth annual walkathon at Qurum Natural Park on October 29 from 4pm.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Yuthar al Rawahi, founder and chairperson, OCA, stressed the importance of the yearly walkathon. ''It is very important because through this event we are able to create awareness among more people.

''We organise it every year to spread the word that early detection of cancer saves lives. We're anticipating record numbers to attend this year's walkathon. OCA thanks the media for having played a major role in promoting our cause,'' she said.

Yuthar said that unfortunately the number of sponsors has not been like previous years. ''We already have gold sponsors for this year, but companies can still participate. The logos of contributing companies, irrespective of their donations, will be displayed in a prominent way for thousands of people to see.''

She said, ''One of the highlights of the event is the raffle draw. Prizes this year include electronic goods, tickets to the Royal Opera House Muscat, gym memberships, weekend stays at four and five star hotels and restaurant vouchers.''

OCA has set up stands at Muscat City Centre, Qurum City Centre, Muscat Grand Mall and Jawharat A'Shatti to register participants for the walkathon and distribute educational material to raise awareness. Registration is for RO3.5 which includes a free T-shirt. Since October is recognised  globally as breast cancer awareness month, OCA has intensified its efforts and initiatives during this time.

OCA will also spend the month visiting schools across the capital inviting them to be creative in raising the funds and educating themselves about the disease.  ''We have asked restaurants to create pink menus this month to help us spread our message reach a  wide audience. An active calendar of events is also scheduled at OCA's headquarters throughout Octobe
