Oil exports from Iraqs south drop in September

(MENAFN) Oil exports from southern Iraq slumped from 2.308 million barrels per day (bpd) in August to 1.821 million bpd in September, The Peninsula Qatar reported. Iraqi oil officials said that this decrease was due to repair works at southern ports. Maintenance at the Basra Oil Terminal closed two of its four berths. An official with the South Oil Company (SOC) said: "Maintenance work and installing new meters have temporarily lowered September exports from the south. Work should end by mid-October to restore normal exports level." The maintenance, upon completion, aims at coping with increased production from the south to increase exports and maintain Iraqs position as the second largest producer in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec).
