All filmmaking clubs in Omanto operate under OFS umbrella

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The Oman Film Society (OFS) has said that all movie clubs, film associations and independent filmmakers in the country will operate under its banner.

The Salalah Film Club will be the first such club to come under the OFS umbrella, followed by movie clubs in the wilayats of Khasab, Ibri, Sohar and Musandam.

To celebrate the merger of Salalah club with the parent body, a reception and workshop was held at OFS headquarters in Seeb on Sunday evening.

Jameel al Yaqoobi, media co-ordinator of OFS and a film director said, ''We are very happy that Salalah Film Club has merged with us. This will ensure that every club can avail its facilities to contribute to the development of cinema.''
He added that most people feel that OFS is a Muscat-centric organisation, which is not the case.

''OFS is an association for moviemakers and clubs of the entire country. Though these independent clubs will come under one banner, they will work on films and documentaries focusing on their regions. There will be no creative hindrance, and suggestions and collaboration of works are always welcome.

''We are planning to host the next edition of Oman Film Meet in Salalah in 2015. Last year, the meet was held in Sohar. We plan to organise the meet in different cities to tap new talent,'' said Yaqoobi. Mohammad al Mardoof, president of Salalah Film Club said, ''We are happy to work with OFS to make meaningful movies on Oman and the Arab region.
