Jobless man on trial for threatening housewife

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A housewife accused a jobless man of threatening to chop her head off and cut her daughter's fingers off unless she dropped a police complaint she had filed against him. In the case taken up by the Court of First Instance, the 21-year-old jobless, a Comoros Islands passport holder, was alleged to harassing the Emirati housewife and her family many times which prompted her to install a surveillance camera outside her flat's door. The defendant did not attend the first hearing in which he faced the charge of threatening to commit a crime. The housewife, 48, said the defendant used to come to their place and knock on the door but they would not open for him. "Around 3am on April 30, he came again and rang the bell. He told me to open the door but I did not." The defendant, who was upset because she had filed a criminal complaint against him, threatened to chop the woman's head off and cut her daughter's fingers off if she did not drop her accusations. The woman's daughter, a student, 21, confirmed her mother's statement. A police sergeant said that they were called to attend to a problem at a building in Al Satwa. "It was around 3.15am. When we reached there, the woman showed us a video tape featuring the defendant knocking on the door." She recounted to them that he threatened her, telling her to drop her complaint. The officer quoted the housewife as saying that she fixed the surveillance camera outside her door especially for the accused.
