(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Al Shabab recorded a convincing 2-0 victory against Al Ittihad in their Omantel Professional League (OPL) game at the Seeb Sports Stadium on Saturday.
Former Oman international Mohammed Taqi opened the scoring for Al Shabab in the 30th minute and current national team member, Younus al Mushaifri, doubled the lead against the Salalah-based club in the 54th minute.
Al Shabab, coached by Morocco's Idriz al Murabati, then held on to safeguard the lead to record its first win in the OPL after three matches.
Earlier in the evening in Sohar, Saham shocked nine-time champion Dhofar, riding a 65th-minute strike from its Syrian player, Mohammed Dino.
The victory helped the club's new coach, Ahmed Abdel-Qader, get off to a winning start in the league after the Jordanian took charge last week.
Meanwhile on Friday, Al Nahda blanked Musannah 3-0 at the Sohar Sports Complex, while current domestic champion Al Suwaiq scraped through with a 1-0 win against Al Arouba at the Sur Sports Complex.
On Thursday, eight-time domestic league champion Fanja asserted its top billing by defeating Majees 1-0 at the Sohar Sports Complex to go on top of the points table.
Also on the same day, Seeb needed a win to go on top of the table, but was held to a 2-2 draw by Sohar at the Seeb Sports Stadium.
Both Seeb and Fanja have seven points each, but Fanja takes the top spot due to better goal-difference.
In the third match of the day, Al Nasr came back from two consecutive losses to beat Sur 2-1 at the Al Saada Sports Complex in Salalah.
