GCC guests give boost to Abu Dhabi hospitality

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)  New figures released by the Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority, or TCA Abu Dhabi, for August show a 144 per cent increase in Saudi Arabia guests, a 140 per cent jump in those from Kuwait and 132 per cent rise in Bahrain patrons. Qatar and Oman also proved to be great source markets for the month with rises of 59 per cent and 82 per cent, respectively. The GCC rally, which the TCA Abu Dhabi attributes to school holidays throughout the region and the Eid Al Fitr celebration, put Saudi Arabia as Abu Dhabi's highest source market for the month outside the domestic arena. "The destination appears to be making headway within the GCC in putting the destination right up there as a family choice for short haul breaks," said Mubarak Al Muhairi, director-general of the TCA Abu Dhabi. Overall, 251,504 guests stayed in Abu Dhabi's hotels and hotel apartments during August, a 37 per cent increase on the same month last year with guest nights rising 36 per cent to 709,148. Occupancy jumped 17 per cent to 64 per cent. Average room rate came in at Dh363, which nudged up seven per cent on August 2012. Total hotel revenues for the month shot up 32 per cent to Dh336.7 million ($92.3 million) with food and beverage income climbing 26 per cent to Dh125.6 million.
