Jagan wants to corner Congress, TDP on AP split

Date:

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Rejuvenated by the release of Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, YSR Congress has come up with a strategy seeking to kill two birds with one stone by demanding a special session of the state assembly to take up a resolution demanding a united Andhra Pradesh. With this, the party hopes to silence political detractors who had alleged that the YSRC lawmakers' decision to press for their resignation would only help passage of a Telangana resolution in a house with reduced strength. At the same time, the party would be seen as a major political force in the forefront of the anti-bifurcation agitation sweeping coastal Andhra and Rayalseema regions in the past 50-odd days. Consequently, the 17 YSRC legislators who had submitted their resignations will not press assembly speaker Nadendla Manohar to accept their papers. As part of the strategy, the party's honorary president and Jagan's mother Y S Vijayalakshmi is already in New Delhi to express solidarity with the agitating Seemandhra government employees who began a candle-light vigil in the national capital on Thursday in an effort to bring pressure on the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government to reverse the decision to create a Telangana state. The party leadership, following a meeting chaired by Jagan, also managed to get an appointment with Governor E S L Narasimhan on September 30, when YSRC is expected to seek a special session of the state assembly to take up a resolution to keep the state united, as against the Congress Working Committee's decision to get a resolution on separate Telangana state passed by the house.
