UAE- Man denies sexual assault on visitor

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A man, who allegedly fooled an expatriate posing as a police officer assigned with arresting illegals, made her ride with him to her workplace and eventually molested her, stood trial on Thursday. The 29-year-old Emirati employee met the Filipina woman in the lift of the building where she lived in the Italian Cluster of International City. Before a Court of First Instance bench, he denied the charges of sexual assault and carrying out a public service when he was not on duty. "I was with my compatriot friend when we came across the accused in the lift. He showed us a card claiming he was a police officer. He asked for our labour cards and I did not carry one since I am new in Dubai," the 28-year-old complainant recounted during investigation. He waited outside her flat as she brought her passport copy for him. "I told him that my employment visa was being processed. He told me to lead him to the hairdressing salon where I worked as a trainee." Even though she told him that the salon was within five minutes' walk from the building, the accused insisted that they would go in his car. To her surprise, he did not stop at the salon, but kept driving. As she begged him to return her to her building, he told her that she was working on a visit visa and that her friend was illegally leasing rooms in her flat. "He told me that was wrong and that if he filed a report against us, we would go to jail. He said 'I am a man and you are a woman' and that I should help him". He then stopped his car in a parking lot." When she asked him how she could help him, he told her to massage his right shoulder and he would not report them to the police. As she began to cry, he allegedly patted on her shoulder telling her "Don't cry and don't be afraid. Help me and I will help you". She cried and told him that she had two children back in her country and she was by herself in Dubai to work, but he would not listen. He allegedly took off her shirt and molested her and then made her perform a sexual act on him. When he dropped her back, they saw a white car outside the building. He told her that the car's owner was a police lieutenant and he would not report her to him since she helped him. She went with her girlfriends later and filed a complaint at the Rashidiya police station. A police lieutenant confirmed the woman lodging a complaint accusing the defendant of sexually abusing her on June 18. The shorts, which the accused was wearing at the time of the incident, had semen stains, according to the criminal evidence report. - mary@khaleejtimes.com
