UAE- Transport firm staff accused of Dh16m tyre theft

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A software programer and a purchase coordinator, who work for Emirates Transport, are being accused of embezzling a large number of tyres worth more than Dh16 million. The two Pakistanis, aged 36 and 55, are also accused in the Court of First Instance of falsifying electronic data pertaining to the tyres in the company's electronic system. Eight other men, including five Indians, one Sudanese and two Pakistanis, who also work for Emirates Transport, are charged with being accomplices in the crime. They are all described as public officers in the prosecution charge sheet. A legal consultant told the investigation that the case came to light after the software programer was found to be falsifying the data pertaining to spare parts. "The Information Department kept him under close watch and it was learnt that what the programer was doing was the reason behind the financial discrepancies," the consultant testified. The consultant added that even though the defendant was not entitled to log in to the warehouse's electronic records, he was doing so to embezzle without leaving evidence by erasing records. The administration filed a complaint at the Rashidiya police station.
